Solo Presentation at Aap Noot Brood — Rotterdam 2025
Throughout December, van Donselaar’s clay sculptures inhabit Aap Noot Brood, a bakery and exhibition space along the Maas at Schiemond 42A in Rotterdam West.

The work unfolds within an intimate setting where mythical creatures, vegetal spirits, and fantastical figures emerge from the artist’s material practice.

Against Yves Klein blue walls, these forms create their own ecosystem—a threshold space where the familiar becomes strange.

Aap Noot Brood operates as both neighborhood bakery and platform for local art, embedded in an area dense with artist studios and design ateliers. The space shares a certain alchemy with van Donselaar’s practice—both working with elemental materials, heat, and transformation to produce daily sustenance of different kinds.

The presentation reflects van Donselaar’s ongoing investigation into ceramic forms that occupy the border between recognition and transformation—figures that might belong to folklore or dream logic, rendered in clay’s particular vocabulary of surface, weight, and gesture.
