Home Sweet Home — Bird House Exhibition at VitraHaus 2024 – 2025

In winter 2024–2025, VitraHaus on the Vitra Campus hosted “Home Sweet Home – Bird House Exhibition,” curated by Swiss interior stylist Connie Hüsser and her label Objects with Love. The exhibition brought together forty internationally renowned designers to create individual birdhouses, each reflecting a distinctive approach to materials and form.

Van Donselaar contributed a birdhouse sculpted as a clay tree trunk—a tactile exploration transforming ceramic into the appearance and texture of natural wood. The work embodies her characteristic practice: working intuitively with material to recreate organic forms while investigating both technical possibilities and cultural meanings of home, nesting, and shelter.

The designs ranged from material experiments to formal investigations, offering visitors insight into contemporary design practice on a miniature scale. Each piece functioned both as practical nesting place and sculptural object, connecting material traditions with currentmaking.

The one-of-a-kind pieces in the exhibition functioned both as practical nesting places and decorative art objects, with proceeds supporting local bird conservation efforts.

The exhibition will be open from November 20, 2024, to January 31, 2025, coinciding with Christmas season.
