Golden Facials 2017 – ongoing

Hand-formed clay faces covered in 24-carat gold leaf. Each built without molds, allowing the clay to hold marks of intuitive making. The faces exist between human and mythical—some bear horns, others elongated features or enigmatic gazes—expressions that seem to travel through time.

The work operates as non-verbal language. Everyone recognizes something different: a particular history, deity, dream, or half-remembered image. The faces collapse distinctions between new and old, future and past, the familiar rendered uncanny.

Gold elevates what must not be forgotten—what we adore, what we’ve lost, what demands remembrance. What was considered sacred got cast in gold, placed on pedestals. These faces receive the same treatment, creating space for new rituals: the joy of choosing what to live with, what to guard, what presence to invite into daily life.

Clay carries the residue of all that has lived. Gold forms only through dying stars. The combination connects earthbound matter with cosmic origin—we are made of stardust, and these faces insist on it.

Fossils, ammonites, botanical specimens, and cellular structures become starting points. The works feel simultaneously ancient and imagined, as if unearthed from lost civilizations or specimens from alternate evolution.
